When Mary was in her teens, she had a mission to find a cream that suited her very dry skin – she had trouble finding a suitable face cream for her skin type. She began mixing essential oils into shop bought creams to add more moisture. Mary quickly became aware of the extraordinary healing and therapeutic benefits of natural plant oils which led her on a journey into an amazing world of magical oils and very effective ingredients.

Chris in the meantime was growing up learning the attributes of seaweed. His Dad suffered a leg injury in a motorbike accident and the wound was treated daily with a seaweed poultice by his Mum who was a nurse. Chris as a young boy was sent down to the Wash at Gibraltar Point in Lincolnshire near where he lived to collect the seaweed. He always remembered to bring enough home for his Saturday night seaweed bath. When Mary and Chris met, they put their ideas together, Mary was still mixing the essential oils into the shop bought creams so they decided to add in Irish seaweed.

In 2006 they noticed a gap in the market and with a bit of expert help set up a company manufacturing natural skincare products which are based on two ancient therapies – Thalassotherapy and Aromatherapy. Thalassotherapy refers to the variety of treatments that use seawater and seaweed to help tone, moisturise and revitalise the mind and body. Seaweed is packed with vitamins, minerals, iodine trace elements and iron and has huge therapeutic benefits.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils. The oils are derived from plants and are chosen for their individual benefits in helping to enhance beauty, promoting wellness and helping to bring balance to the mind, body and soul. From starting out exhibiting at retail exhibitions and building up a good following, Green Angel are now selling into over 800 retail outlets nationwide and exporting to several countries and more recently opened their flagship store in Kilbride, Wicklow.
